Mr. Anker Tests

In an effort to help students at Alexandria perform to their potential overall and get a better idea of what it is like to take a standardized test at their grade level, I have developed a series of HyperCard-based tests. These stacks contain content area questions that help students focus in on the essential skills and facts relevant to subject area and grade level. There are also tests on topics that are not part of each grade level's standards.

One of the most important messages we try to impart to our students throughout the year is the importance of reading accross the curriculum. This is just as true in the testing experience of students. Nearly every part of the testing battery that students take (Language, Math, Social Studies, Science) are all for the most part, reading tests.

These stacks help students realize that if they are not understanding the question through reading, they are not going to have much of a chance to answer correctly.

Using a range of grade leveled stacks within a grade level class allows students learning at different rates to practice at their own low, middle or high level.

Students see the result of their answer choices as soon as they've made them (unlike booklet based testing), and the total score for a set of questions.

We have also seen many students become self-competitive while practicing. Even after scoring a grade of "F", many students will return to the beginning of a test to try and improve their score/grade incrementally, until they can get an "A".
