With the endorsement of the Board of Education, the Superintendent has authorized a Districtwide
campaign to help alleviate the suffering of victims of the hurricane Katrina that struck states situated
on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico on August 29, 2005, killing and injuring thousands, and destroying
billions of dollars worth of property. The hurricane was a storm of historic proportions with more
than 500,000 people left homeless in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.
Superintendent Roy Romer and Members of the Board of Education have organized a Districtwide
fund-raising campaign to provide much needed assistance to the hurricane victims.
The goal of this current relief drive is to collect funds for the American Red Cross.
